Solo trip with purpose: looking for immersive, hands-on travel experiences. Anywhere in the world

Hey all,

I’m in a bit of a unique situation this year and hoping to tap into the collective wisdom here. I’ve got a decent chunk of annual leave to use around September/October, but my partner won’t be able to join me, so I’m leaning towards doing something solo.

Ive travelled quite a lot already (Male, 31), so I’m not really looking for a standard “go to X city and sightsee” kind of trip. What I do want is something that feels a bit different ideally something immersive, slightly challenging, maybe even a bit uncomfortable in a good way. The kind of experience that sticks with you and I can look back on with fond memories as this may be one of the last big holidays before having kids.

A few rough ideas I’ve had just to give a sense of direction:

  1. Learning to scuba dive somewhere like the Red Sea

  2. Helping out with a vineyard harvest in Tuscany

  3. Doing a multi-day hike somewhere a bit wild

But I’m very open and honestly would prefer something more original than those if possible.

I’m pretty adaptable, happy being on my own, and up for trying something new (within reason). Doesn’t have to be luxury at all I’d actually prefer something more authentic or hands-on.

So yeah if you’ve done something a bit unusual, challenging, or just genuinely memorable, I’d love to hear about it.

Cheers!
