Self portraits with timer (NikonZ)

Hi all! How do you take self portraits? And is anyone able to take them at high aperture? f/1.8-f/4?

I tried to use SnapBridge and focus on my phone, very weirdly the camera thought it was focusing, but the pictures were blurry (with eye tracking AF and a godox ad400).

I finally managed to take self portraits by using the timer - I focused on a light stand and then placed myself in the same area. But there’s a trick - I could only do it at f/8 or higher numbers (low aperture). I am really curious if there is any way of taking self portraits at high apertures - how to get focus?

Thank you!
