Traveling to east Flores

Hello, I’m looking for an authentic adventure and planning a trip to Flores (Maumere and then to Larantuka and finally Pulau Lembata). Thinking about doing it by scooter. I don’t have much experience riding scooters, but I’m not in a rush and can take it slow. Has anyone done something similar or can tell me what to expect?

How are the roads ? Is it doable for a beginner? Anything else I should know?
Would it also be an option to get a driver for the long drives and then rent a scooter locally to explore more?

There’s barely any info online about this area, so I’d really appreciate any real experiences 🙏
